It’s that time again, Season 6 enters has entered the chat!
Last season was dope. Players had fun, there were zero reported deaths, and Top Cut contenders went home with some awesome prizes. Especially AviSatine, our Season 5 Champion! This season we’ll feature the Chosen format. Like the previous season, we’ll have a regular season of swiss rounds followed by a top cut playoff. Games will be played between Tuesday and Sunday organised between players in AEST time.
Let’s get to forgin’!
Who broke the website?! *Glaring*
Registration’s closed. If you missed out, jump into discord and contact one of the admins about joining. Sometimes life happens and groups may need a sub for the remainder of the league. Super special outlier case, but it never hurts to ask.
Giveaways! Our first one is based on registration and referrals. It breaks down as follows. Participating in Season 6 earns you 1 entry into the giveaway pool. Since we like to mix it up, bring a friend to play in Season 6 who did not participate in Season 5, and we’ll give you 2 additional entries into the giveaway pool and we’ll give your new recruit 1 additional entry in the giveaway pool. There’s no limit to the number of friends you can bring to join this season, and bonus entries stack!
We’ve a 42-player group stage and are still planning on doing a Top 16 cut. Yes those numbers aren’t pretty and clean for Top 16 (heh), but we’ll stick with the top 2 people but given the format, we’ll figure out in Week 2 or 3 if we’ll handle how we handle the extra 2 spots in our Top Cut.
As a reminder, your matchup for each week is the event we’d like you to report out on. You’re welcome to practice, play friendlies, discuss amongst other players (even in other groups) about banning strategies and looking forward through the season. Details for how to report your matches are in the announcements channel in discord, and will be in the FAQ before the end of Week 1.
The plan for the Season 6 playoffs was to take the top 2 pilots from each group and move them onto a Top cut. If there are any ties, we will handle those tie breakers based on stories written about their matches.
Yes, ok, fine, we ignored the heading of this section. Someone blew up historical data from Season 5 and Season 4. While it doesn’t impact what we’re doing in Season 6, there will be some time before the data is restored for our history/records.
Season 6 Structure & Format
Weeks begin on Tuesdays and conclude on Sundays. Players are responsible for scheduling and reporting their own games. Any unreported or incomplete games by week’s end will be counted as losses for both participants. Each week, excluding post-season activities, will utilize the same format. Players and their chosen decks will be publicized ahead of the start of the Week 2. All days/times are considered from the AEST time zone.
Players have been randomly assigned into groups, and in the group stage we’re looking at a round-robin series of matchups. There’s some theory crafting about round-robins mashed together with a dwindling pile of available decks, let’s talk about that later in the season. When post-season participation has been decided, the number of players who will make the playoffs will be announced.
This season we’re featuring yet another unique format, the Chosen format. Players will bring 6 decks to this season. Each matchup, players will pick one deck they’ll play in a best of three matchup. Regardless whether players win or lose, at the conclusion of their matchup players will ban a deck from their opponent’s available deck pool, and that deck cannot be played the rest of the season. Deck availability will not reset for the Top Cut.
Tiebreakers will be awarded to the players who reported their games with the most interesting stories, followed by head-to-head matchup. Be sure to join our Discord for regular chitter chatter about the league.
Aside from the Chosen format, all standard Keyforge rules apply. In regards to conduct in completing their games, tournament etiquette and official Keyforge tournament rules also apply.
Other Information
Part of our early-season livestream will include details about prize support. We’ve “hinted” (read: “posted photos”) about prizes we’ll have for Season 6. We’re aiming to provide more information about how this season will pan out prize-wise, before the end of Week 2 of the regular season. Many of the common questions have been answered privately and added to an FAQ page for Season 5. As Season 6 starts to flesh out, we’ll update this FAQ page with relevant content to keep you informed (and so we don’t have to copy/paste answers to all of the things.)
